With less than a month until East Project are back on the London dancefloors with our 5th October event featuring Russ Yallop, George Smeddles and Matt Fear, we thought we would share another promo mix from one of our local guest DJs, this time in the form of London due ESEE FREE...

Having featured on our EP Friends Vol6 EP with tech house monster "Yo Body", we thought why not invite them along to show us what they are made of behind the decks and in order to get us in the mood, they kindly offered to record a 75 minute mix of underground house and tech house gems and answer a few questions...  Enjoy!!

Tell us who you are and what you are up?

We are Esee Free a DJ/production duo from South East London. Currently working on lots of bits at the moment. Most recently we had tracks out with Dope Coded Tech, Lefty Shades and have a track out at the end of August on our label Noise Vandals as part of the Summer VA 2018.

Who is the present DJ who you are looking up to at present?

Shane: Eli Brown – he is just consistently making good music with rumbling basslines!

Alfie: For me, if I’m honest there are too many to just name one but I really like what Brett Gould is doing at the moment.

Are you looking forward to East Project, what can we expect from an Esse Free set?

Buzzing to be joining such a sick line-up! We have some wicked new unreleased bits and of course we will be bringing down some naughty tech house rollers with some catchy vocals for good measure.

You have recently had a release on the label, what have you got scheduled for the rest of the year?

We have just finished a remix for Konvic which will be out on Deep Down Dirty later in the year and loads of bits in the pipeline so keep your eyes and ears open.

Finally… Name a guilty pleasure CD you own?

Alfie: I love a bit of Queen in particular Bohemian Rhapsody

Shane: Alanis Morissette, the jagged little pill album

Introducing PAGIEYOURBOY... + his promo mix for 5th October EP event!

Tell us who you are and what you are up to at the moment…

My name is Scott page, I go by PAGIEYOURBOY when DJing. I’ve been DJing for 10 months, started off as a hobby and then got asked to play a night in my home town of Southend called STRUT and now I’m one of their residents and I’m trying my hand at producing as well.

If you pick one DJ to go b2b with, who would it be and why?

If I could go B2B with one DJ it would have to be Jamie Jones… my reason for this is because I saw him a paradise in Brixton and his mixing blew me away.  The energy that he gives off and the way he plays the music he loves, knowing that it’s going to the crowd on a wicked musical journey.

Any club in the world to play at and why?

The one club I would love to play in the world would be DC-10 on the terrace, it gives the most amazing feeling and energy the minute u walk in and it is massively known throughout the world for having the sickest DJs and 2 of the best nights in Ibiza.

Are you looking forward to East Project?  What have you got in store for us?

I am buzzing about playing for East Project on the 5th ofOctober and hope to impress them so much that they have me at more of their events. I’m hoping to bring some absolute bangers that no one has heard and blow the roof off the place with my craziness and energy throughout my set.

If you were stranded on a dessert island and could only take one album, what would it be and why?

I don’t have a specific album but it would have to be most of Kerri Chandler’s tunes, as he hits nearly all genres of music from house to jazz. The man is a wizard in the studio, producing banger after banger.

Introducing ARKANE... And their EP FREE track "Triblist"

Please introduce yourselves...

Hi, we are Arkane, a production & DJ duo from Birmingham, UK!

You're up-and-coming on the Birmingham scene...  What are the best clubs and events to get your underground house and techno fix?

Being up & coming we’ve been really lucky... we’ve been asked to play some real nice parties in Birmingham. We actually formed as a duo when we were put as a B2B at our residency party ‘District’. This event is one of the best brands to be involved in if you’re up & coming or even established. It’s gone from strength to strength. There’s no rules... as long as the BPMs rising & the dance floors popping, everyone involved is happy.

Another event is ‘The Acid Experiment’. A good mate of ours Ben Price actually got featured on Dance Trippin TV with a set at this event. ‘The Acid Experiment’ was born in Birmingham & is now a major part in the rave scene here.

An after party called ‘Afta Dark’, started up by the best promoters & events organisers in 0121 has taken the city by storm. Again, we’ve been lucky enough to play this. 3:30am - 9:00am, Brum turns into Ibiza, seeing the sun rise up through the green house ceiling.

All of these events are held at the HUB of Birmingham’s rave scene... Lab 11, our favourite venue.

Who have been your biggest influences production wise?

It’s hard to point out biggest influences because there’s literally that many! If we had to pick we would say, Micheal Bibi, Hector Couto, Archie Hamilton, Klangkuenstler.  The vibe these guys' tracks create when you drop one is insane & that’s exactly what kind of effect we wanted to have on people.

What do you have lined up for 2018?

It’s been a good year so far for us being up & coming. We’ve played some mad parties & we’ve got some more coming up! 12th May we were involved in a DJ soundclash at Starworks in Wolverhampton. This was fun, all the local DJs battling it out to see who’s the champion underground selector.

19th May we took over Lab11 with District once again, then into June. And on the 15th June we play Basement 77, an underground house & techno night at Suki 10c Birmingham. Then the big one... we’re playing a 7 day tour of Gran Canaria with Dimensions. Playing 5 bars & 2 clubs.

If you were stranded on a dessert island and could only take one album with you. What would this be?

Tom – I’d take 50 Cent ‘Get Rich Or Die Tryin’. I love my house & tech but I love my hip hop just as much & when it comes to finding a go to album to whack on without skipping any tunes, it’s got to be this!

Arron - For my album. Chase & Status - Brand New Machine. There’s something about this album that just makes me realise how great it is to be alive. My go to album would make me wana live for the moment & that’s what it’s all about!

Are you boys heading to any festivals or Ibiza over the summer. Who are you looking forward to seeing?

We’re actually off to Music On in Amsterdam in a couple of weeks time, we’re buzzing for that! Hector Couto, Marco Carola, The Martinez Brothers, Claude VonStroke, Loco Dice. they’re just a few that we’re buzzing to see!

Speaking with Filthy French about their "Haze EP"... OUT NOW!

The "Filthy French & This.Is.Sally - Haze" EP is out now on Beatport, so we thought we would have a little catch up with our French buddies FILTHY FRENCH!

Give us a bit of history behind this collaboration with This.Is.Sally…

We met This.Is.Sally randomly chatting online back in 2015. We seemed to have a lot in common so one day he flew from Stockholm to meet up and work on some music. We ended up spending the whole weekend in lock down mode in the studio and what came out of it was the title track of our Haze EP. We thought that collaboration was so special that we should each give it our own personal interpretation, hence the final package coming with “auto remixes” so to speak.

Last year you had a track called “Chirp” released on Dirtybird…  How did that come about?

That's a pretty funny story actually… at the beginning of last year, we started going through all the unreleased demos that accumulated in the back end of our SoundCloud account that we’d forgotten about. When playing Chirp, we realised that track had Dirtybird written all over it so we sent it as a demo to the label.

A few weeks later we received an email saying that Claude Vonstroke wanted to play it in his Birdhouse podcast, and asked about a better quality version. Right at that moment, the computer where the project was stored started playing up horribly and it was almost impossible to make any changes to the track without it crashing...we were nervous about missing our shot but Claude played the demo version anyways, thinking it was signed elsewhere (he even says in the podcast it’s released on “Funky”, not sure where this came from…).

We were determined to sign this track to Dirtybird so we hustled with the computer for a few weeks until the track was finally ready. We sent the track back to the label and they replied asking for a second track for a release on the Birdfeed channel. We made the second track “Dirty Disco Bitch” in less than a week and the 2-track EP was released a few weeks later.

What other releases do you have lined up for 2018?

We have 2 EPs coming out in June. The first one will be out on Lame Digital, alongside a banging Nick Olivetti remix, and the second one will be released as a single on Canadian imprint BADLQQK.

Tell us about your new podcast… “Filthcast”

The Filthcast is basically a place where we throw all the jams we're feeling at the moment, as well as unreleased from us and forthcoming records. We meant to do that for a long time but laziness got the better part of us...

Finally, feel free to plug anything else you are up to this year or any DJ/production buddies we should be looking out for…

In terms of DJing, we'll be playing a showcase for a HiFi speaker brand called Dali in May in Paris. We will also throw some beats at the Fête de la Musique in June in Paris. It's basically a day in the year where all musicians and performers are free to play in the streets, pretty good fun! Finally, we're pinning down a date to come and play in Italy with the Ciao Recs family in September.

With only a few weeks until we start up our East Project parties again in London, we thought we would introduce to the world a new up-and-coming DJ, who we think has got what it takes to make it in this crazy underground dance music industry of ours...  Introducing Josh Ramadan!!

Please introduce yourself...

Hi Josh Ramadan here from Essex.

Tell us about your mix for the DEEP:TECH and East Project Radio show and how you decided to approach it?  What was the aim?

I decided to go a bit slower and deeper with this latest mix. I wanted to keep it deep tech/tech house and the aim was to take the listener on a journey.

You're booked to play the East Project event on Friday 11th May at the Horse & Groom...  Do you have anything planned for your set?

That’s correct can’t wait for it! I have a few bangers lined up that I’ve wanted to play for a while all of which will help get the party off to a flying start.

Are you into producing as well as DJing?  If not, is it an area you would like to get into?

I am producing also I would say currently I’m in the learning phase at the moment. My aim for 2018 is to have a number of tracks completed with the potential of releasing them on a label.

Who are your big influences musically?

My biggest influences would have to be the likes of Carl cox, Adam beyer and Richy Ahmed as all of them worked their way up from nothing to where they are today. This encourages me to do the same in the future.

Talking A&R with LA SAM... And his remix of Billy Rath - Cuerno (Out Monday 26th March)!

Hi Sam. We featured you on the blog last summer when you recorded a mix for our EP Podcast series and just after you joined the team as A&R…  How has the past 9 months or so been for you working with us?

It is crazy that it has been that long because it feels nowhere near that. It has been an absolute blast I feel I have really broadened my horizons with joining the label team, especially when East Project was where it all began for me in terms of my first gig so it’s great to be working more closely in growing the label.

There has been a real buzz about the label lately and so many great upcoming talent releasing with us. The likes of Ben Sterling, K&K and Louis Robinson all happy to release on label has really helped and happy to say I was able to get them on board! A special mention to Tom Laidlaw as well who got in contact with me and released his first EP with us.

The biggest thing for me was helping artists that are trying to break through in this industry because I have been there myself and it is seriously the most rewarding feeling I have had by helping someone else.

With a really successful first release for 2018, there is a real sense that this could be a big year for the label, why do you think that is?

I think it is a combination of things. As a team me, Ben and Adam always work hard to brainstorm releases and who we can bring onto the label to help grow it. We always post a lot on socials as well. Another thing is our attitude with no egos, it is always about the quality of the music not the stature of the artist. If a producer has 0 followers on Soundcloud but their music is spot on for the label we will release it. Same goes if an artist has 10,000 followers but music doesn’t suit our sound then we won’t.

We also don’t have a fixed kind of sound, we release what we think sounds good, whether that’s minimal, deep house, tech house, techno etc if we like it we will release it. Then to round it off we have had so much support from Lindsey Matthews, Billy Rath, Ying Yang, Jo Poole, Matt Fear…. The list goes on. Without support there wouldn’t be so much hype around the label.

When you are out looking for new music or if anyone sends you a promo, what do they need to do to catch your attention?

I feel that approaching me in a kind genuine way is the best way. I don’t need anything specific, just you know a simple hello and little intro goes a long and a polite please and thank you. Manners go a long way for me. In terms of what I want to hear is always something different for example with Tom Laidlaw’s Jungle Move EP he had samples from a rainforest, which I thought was so cool and the groove of the track was perfect.

Are you looking for anything specific from a track/artists?

It has to sound clean. I feel a lot of artists sound clips that haven’t mixed down their tracks properly are presenting themselves in a bad way. A master isn’t crucial but a clean sounding well layered track is!

Looking at this upcoming EP from Billy Rath and specifically your remix of lead track “Cuerno”, what were you hoping to achieve with your version of the original?

When I got the parts, the vocal was a big factor for me. So when writing the track I based it around that and made a hook. I wanted to make something that had groove and energy with progression with a deep bass and that’s how it ended.

Did it come out as planned?

Yeah, I was really happy with how it turned out always want my productions to be as perfect as possible!

Ok! I feel Jacky deserves a mention! I have known him for some time now and he is taking his Jacky & Friends brand to Fabric! Which is huge for him. From being a part time DJ when I met him to where he is now is a perfect testament to hard work and dedication. Also, George Privatti for me is an unsung hero from Elrow. His productions have been solid lately and his December 2017 set over on Soundcloud is full of so many heavy tracks that make you wanna dance.

Introducing K&K...

This duo have been on fire recently and we were super happy to get them involved in the Matt Fear - Absolute Terrace release by providing a big house remix!

Please introduce yourselves…

Hi we are K&K, DJ and production duo from the London & Kent areas - Robin and Dan.  We've been DJing together in different guises for around 20 years now.  We began DJing in local clubs and bars in Kent in the late 90's, then moved up to Hertfordshire where we ran a club night for just over 5 years.  We've been lucky enough to play at many iconic venues including Ministry of Sound, Egg, the old Pacha and many more.

I think our music style takes into account our 20yr journey spanning many genres...  It's a solid mix of bouncy tech house with a definite old school influence and in the last 5 years we have had humbling success with our productions, original tracks, remixes and edits.  Again our love for the house classics is heavily noticeable in everything we do.

Your top track on Beatport is Peaceful Crowd, released on Sleazy Deep.  Tell us how that track come about and what was it like seeing it played by so many of the big house DJs?

Peaceful Crowd literally came out of nowhere. The vocal sample was already part of a track but it just needed something else. So a chill out in Ibiza listening to house classics around the pool became the eureka moment just as that famous piano kicked in.

The amount of play it’s got over the past year and a half has been ridiculous and nothing like what we expected.  Everyone from Annie Mac to Hodor has played it and every time we see a video or get a message saying it’s been played, it still doesn’t quite sink in!

You also did a great edit of Double 99 – RIP Groove…  were you guys into the UK garage sound?

As previously mentioned, we were DJing at the height of the UK garage phenomenon and loved it (still do), so yes most of what comes from the K&K camp has an element of this sound in it.  We try and constantly look for old club favourites to rework and edit so we can get them into modern day club sets. That particular edit received crazy support and is still getting hammered now!

What are your thoughts on the London club scene at present?

It's in a strong place, there is a lot of exciting investment and clubs are bringing some massive names to the capital!  It's not just London either; venues across the UK are really putting out strong line ups, Maidstone is firmly on the map right now!

The buzz is definitely there again in the clubbing world, it's often we will end up on the dance floor before, after and sometimes even during a gig partying.  Another amazing thing at the moment is it's such a diverse crowd in every way, you have 18yr olds alongside 50yr olds all just loving the music.

When you got the parts for Absolute Terrace, how did you approach your remix?

It’s a great track so we wanted to keep the feeling of the original but move more towards a percussive roller.  We were really pleased how the remix turned out!

Finally, what are your plans for 2018 and have you set yourselves any goals or targets on the production/DJ front?

We have some massive gigs lined up early 2018 including House Of Silk at GSS, supporting Fatboy Slim at Source Bar, supporting Mark Knight at 33hz and continuing our residency with Habitat supporting Latmun b2b with Detlef at Source!

Lots of releases lined up including a collab with Vanilla Ace and our track “I Can Do It” on Daylight Robbery this has been getting massive support.

We obviously have dream gigs we’d love to play and dream labels we’d love to sign tracks to but don’t set goals as such. We just want to carry on doing what we do and hopefully next year will be just as successful as the last!

Introducing Lindsey Matthews...

East Project are super happy to have been able to get Lindsey involved on the label, with an amazing remix of Absolute Terrace from Matt Fear, a top mix for our monthly slot on the DEEP:TECH radio show, as well as some original dub tech goodness coming later in the year.

Hey Lindsey, tell us what you are up to over the next few months?

I’m being quite selective as to what bookings I take at the minute. I will be playing some cool parties & festivals over the next few months. But I am mainly focusing on my producing at the moment which I’m sure you will all get to hear very soon

What were your highlight of 2017?

I had an amazing year, 2017 was a learning curve for me. Playing all summer in Ibiza & having the opportunity to play at Lovebox Festival was one to remember. But my highlight from 2017 has to be playing at one of my favourite venues in London 'Village Underground" for Solo Danza alongside Andrea Oliva & Neverdogs. The vibe was unreal & it is without a doubt one of the parties to watch in London in 2018

For anyone that has not caught a Lindsey Matthews set, tell us what they should expect?

I mean every DJ is different, but I feel I have my own style & vibe behind the decks. I like to mix up vocal lyrics with my dubby vibe. I am growing as a DJ & looking up to Apollonia… I feel my vibe is heading towards that direction.

What artists out there at the moment are your inspirations?

I have a few inspirations, Rossko, Guti, but at the moment Peggy Gou has to be my inspiration. After watching her at Circo Loco at DC she is definitely up there with her sound & energy.

Last question... If you were stranded on a desert island, what one album would you bring along to listen to and why?

That is a tough question as I adapt my music to the mood I am in. But it has to be Jamiroquai, I don’t know anyone who doesn’t love that guy

Hi Tom.  How would you describe your remix of Jungle Move in 5 words?

Raw / Deep / Driven / Warm / Emotive

You have quite a bit of industry experience, having worked at CR2 records and now at MadHouse, MadTech and Sense Traxx.  Do you think this is important to help make it in the industry as a DJ or Producer?

I don’t necessarily think having an industry job is necessary to being successful, I’m not sure it makes too much of a difference. The main thing is making sure the quality of your music is as good as it can be, to not cut corners and to make sure you create networks to get your music heard.

You’ve had a busy 2017 on the releases front… Which has been your favourite production and what can we expect from you in 2018?

My favourite production has to be my remix of DJOKO’s ‘Foolin’ Round’. Had some huge support across the board and did great in the stores, pretty much has defined my direction for 2018.

A few things to come and a few more to finish, so can’t say too much right now, but some nice things on the way with a vinyl-only release coming end of Jan to start the year nicely!

Finally, any exciting plans for NYE?

Not sure, so many great parties on in the city! I’ll see where it takes me.

Introducing TOM LAIDLAW... and the "Jungle Move" EP!!

East Project end the year with a massive EP (out on Boxing Day) from the extra talented Tom Laidlaw...  Check out the previews and interview below:

Please introduce yourself

Hi Guys. I’m Tom Laidlaw, 21 year old DJ/producer from Southend, Essex.

Who have been your big influences musically growing up and now? 

Growing up in a family where music is a massive thing for us with my dad being a mod into Northern Soul from the 80s really influenced me into music and always gave me a great music taste from disco to rock music. Music generally has been a massive thing for me growing up.

How would you describe your sound and how do you like to work in the studio?

I’d like to describe my sound as very punchy with heavy baselines and kicks and always with a little bit of groove.  I like to try and make my tracks different to a lot of house stuff released today but with only 3 years production experience I’m still trying to mould my own sound.

Tell us a bit about how Jungle Move and Junkin came about?  What was the inspiration behind those tracks?

There wasn’t really any inspiration behind jungle move…  I started it aiming for a groovy punchy tech house track with weird perc fills and noises but didn’t want to fall into the generic tech house category.  The jungle idea came about when I was thinking of ideas how to make this track different, so I sampled a load of wild animal noises and put them behind the track and it worked really well. Junkin is a darker track and works really well in a EP together.

Tell us more about KLIK in Southend? And do you have a preference between DJing or producing?

KLIK Southend is a house and techno event that has been running for 6 years now.  It’s a big event in Southend and has been for years, we aim to bring something different to our nights with music deep from the underground scene, with headliners like “Dungeon meat”, Fuse residents and Paranoid London.

I have been DJing for 5 years now and only started producing 3 years ago.  I do not prefer either, I absolutely love them both and it’s a massive passion of mine, from selecting music for a killer set to jumping in the studio and starting new projects – it’s a massive joy for me!

What have been your 2017 highlights and what can we expect from you in 2018?

2017 has been a really good year for me with the KLIK parties growing and having my first EP released, there is a lot planned for 2018 and you can expect more music from me early into the new year!

Finally, assuming you are on Santa’s good list, what would be the ultimate present this year?

I am always looking to improve my home studio so some Roland equipment would be nice… maybe a TR-09.

Introducing... Louis Robinson! (FREE Music)

What are you up to at the moment and what’s in store for the next few months?

Everything has been a little crazy lately but good crazy. So, I’ve just come back from playing some wicked shows out in Ibiza, two of which really stood out for me, I had the opportunity to play for Mark Radford’s label Audio Rehab at Eden and then Faction at Eden the following night too. I have to give a big shout out to the team at VMODA too for sending me some personalised headphones to take on tour with me, they were fantastic and are now my go to set of headphones.

EDEN was incredible, the atmosphere was brilliant and the hospitality was amazing.

At the moment on top of squeezing in new productions and hosting my weekly radio residency on "ELECTRIC", I am currently doing a lot of work behind the scenes with my new business partner KI A PO, we have been building our brand “SOLITE”, an events company focusing on Tech House, & Techno, sometimes I get the chance to throw down a little bit of Disco too which I can never get enough of. Throughout the summer we have been recruiting our residents, hosting small events, doing club takeovers and we were also called upon to do a live stream for “Roland” to celebrate their yearly 909 day celebration.

Once “SOLITE” finds its home venue my focus will be on getting back in the studio so I can finish off my latest productions, I am bursting with ideas at the moment so I cannot wait to get them put together.

Tell us about the music scene in Reading and what Solite brings to it?

Honestly, I am still quite fresh on the Reading music scene, I’m not from around here and being based in London, before I moved to Reading, has meant I have kept a lot of my focus still on the capital.  Reading is a very receptive crowd though, the events I have played here have been great, no one ever wants to leave at the end of a night which is always a good sign and a rewarding feeling.

One of the big reasons KI A PO and myself are working on “SOLITE” is because we want to create a large buzz around the music we love in the town we both now call “home”, and because we want to cement our names into the Reading music scene. We have been in talks with various clubs in Reading and potentially have found our home. I don’t want to give too much away as we have the business side of things to protect but, what I can say is we are very happy with what we have put in place and we feel not only will our choice of venue help us to achieve a large following in Reading but it also opens up a lot of opportunities to branch out to other places around the UK. “SOLITE” is our new family and we intend to grow together as a family bringing really solid music focused events wherever we go, so watch this space.

If you could book one DJ to headline your event who would it be and why?

That is a horrible question, I have so many people who have inspired and continue to inspire me that I would love to work with. If I had to choose one though I would go with Carl Cox.

Growing up as a kid I spent a lot of time looking up to my older sister, we are both identical when it comes to personality and music choice. I have always been into music, I’ve played guitar and drums from a young age but she is one of the main reasons House and Techno was introduced to me. Every time we talk about music she will tell me a story of her and her mates being on the terrace at Space listening to Carl Cox, I won’t say her age because she will beat me, but the stories always tell of the Space days I was unfortunately too young to experience… She’s been a fan for a healthy time haha.

Being able to put Carl Cox on one of my shows would mean I get a night to play with one of the people who has inspired me as a DJ and artist while also being able to bring my big sis along for a trip down memory lane to where all her stories came from that got me hooked on dance music.

You are part of Sugar and resident along with our LA SAM. Tell us how that come about and the sugar event?

I was approached by James (Sugar head honcho) earlier this year, he mentioned he was building a team of DJs and looking to host events around London. I had actually been out of action for about a year at this point as I had some health issues and an op left me having to take things easy. Back on my feet though James introduced me to a team I hadn’t met before and instantly we all clicked. We are a funny bunch when we are together and we all have our individual quirky characters about us, so we make for quite a funny little family but a strong family too. We have had various events throughout the year and the Sugar brand has been growing on the London scene.

Although Sam is always taking the piss out of me because he is a giant looking down on little me at only 5 foot 4 and he finds it hilarious that I always choose a good set of shoes, no matter the weather or length of show we are playing, to wear instead of trainers, I love him to bits and am very thankful we now work closely together.

I can’t thank him enough for putting me in touch with East Project and assisting me getting my tracks signed, hopefully in the near future we will get to jump in the studio together to create something special.

Next up in the East Project podcast series we have a superb mix from our main man LA SAM!!

Please introduce yourself:

Hey my name is LA SAM, the name can be misleading that I am from LA but that is not the case so wanna get that out the way first. I am a DJ from Essex that started as a double act with my friend Lewis but it never worked out so just kept the name. I have been DJ'ing nearly 4 years by November it will be, which is actually the anniversary for playing for you guys the first time. My style is Tech house, techno and deep house mainly. But I do have a liking for Nu disco, more emotional tech house commonly known as "Deep Tech" and 80's music a long with the old kinda hip hop not the stuff that is going about now, back in the day Tupac and Biggie Smalls for example. I have also been producing for 3 years and very proud of my releases so far.

What are you up to at the moment and what have you go lined up for summer?

This year has been crazy I have had a lot of gigs and really well supported releases. I have a residency with Sugar which is a new London event with a concept of colour and bumpy kind of music to make you move. The first party was nothing short of super and headlining with my friend Ben Sterling on the 2nd one was an honour. Highlights this year include We Are Fstvl b2b with Zach Murray in the Data Transmission tent, playing for Data Transmission at Brighton Music Conference then later doing an impromptu b2b with my mate Dan Hayes at the Arch what a wicked venue that is! Also played at the Source, Studio 338 (Garden) and Basing House. I continue my residency for Sugar on the 5th August at our regular location Floripa which fits our concept perfectly as it's a Brazilian themed Tropical bar and there's lots more in pipeline just can't announce yet.

Producing or DJing, which do you prefer?

Wow tough question both very different art forms. I love both honestly otherwise I wouldn't do both. With Dj'ing you express yourself live in front of a crowd of people, timing is crucial and of course track selection, when you drop a track that they have never heard before, seeing their faces and reactions is just incomparable an amazing feeling. With production you're mostly alone or sometimes with a few mates. It's special because when you sit there after making a break down you can just lose yourself closing your eyes and punching the air imagining it being dropped by a top artist in Ibiza for example really gives you a sense of achievement because you made it from scratch. So I don't prefer either sorry haha!

How would you describe your DJing or production style?  Are they similar and how do they feed into each other?

My style is very much taking people on a journey I don't like sticking to one tempo, I like people to go through all different speeds and emotions when watching me, otherwise for me it gets too repetitive and boring. The music I play will always depend what time I play, the venue and the event. Those elements really influence my track choice before hand and then it's reading the crowd and seeing how they are feeling the first few tracks then you can kinda get a sense of what is going to work but I always take risks and play something a bit unique just to see what their reactions are. My production is 100% similar as I like to play my own tracks out first before sending them to my friends and big artists in the industry to use. I've produced Techno, Tech House and deep house including a track made with my own lyrics called "instead" released on Data Transmissions label Shanghaied which gained great feedback from Joyce Muniz, Felix Da Housecat and Maxine Hardcastle. On top of that Detlef used my remix of Submotion - Ah Human on his Stereo Productions Podcast for Chus & Cebellos which was massive for me, Mat.Joe also recently gave great feedback on it too so it shows I have the potential to do well!

A Rollercoaster Journey Of Sound.

On the mix you've included 2 tracks from the Clouded Judgement boys, who we have had play at East Project a couple of times and have been building a great name for themselves...  Who else on the London or UK scene should we be keeping an eye out for?

Yeah man great guys they played just before me and Zach Murray at We Are Fstvl this year they are doing really well, their forthcoming EP is great so had to use a few of those tracks. I have a whole host of friends that are making their way up the ladder but I would have to say my fellow Sugar residents Stephen Thomas, Lizzie Grant, James Carter, Louis Robinson, Lewis Murch and Luke Slater all have something to offer and I'm so happy to be part of a strong team so keep an eye out on them! Also close friends Zach Murray who recently got his track "Drum Machine" dropped by MK at Amnesia in Ibiza and Ben Sterling who released a 4 track EP on Josh Butlers Label Origins rcrds.

You have been following East Project from the start from there parties to there label. Tell us about your forthcoming track on the label and coming on board with the team?

Yes my first ever party as a young man been a major influence on coming into the music industry. My fourth coming track Spiritual Calling was definitely based on the hot creations kind of style but also has a rawness about it. The vocal hook sounds like some sort of spirit calling out hence the name. I am very excited about working closer with the team and a new challenge. I want to help unrecognised talent and help grow the reach of a great label and party that has been so crucial to my development.

EP Friends Vol4... Introducing MalcoHol!!

For the third of our mini interviews with the artists from the EP Friends Vol4 release that hit the shelves on the 5th September, we catch up with Malcon Capitine...  a.k.a. MalcoHol!!

Please introduce yourself...

My name is Malcon Capitine a.k.a MalcoHol, I'm a DJ/Producer from Maputo/Mozambique. Music has been my love ever since I was really young and I started producing in 2011 and DJing in 2014 same time I took house music more seriously.

I'm inspired and influenced mostly by every good music that catches my attention, to me every good artist (musician in this case) is a really big influence and inspiration to me and my music.

My producing style is mostly dark, deep and groovy, witch I apply them on Bass Music (Deep House/Bass House).

Describe your release on Friends Vol.4 in 5 words...

In 5 words I describe my release as Dark, Groovy, Catchy, Genuine and Awesome.

What else do you have coming up, that we should look out for (DJ gigs or new releases)?

19/08 I'm releasing a Collab EP called MalcoHol VS Michel Mess, with Michel Mess, a good producing partner & friend and 12/09 I'll be releasing a deep house with the title "Don't Know " in a South African label called Immoral Music.

Finally, if you had been selected for the Olympics, in which sport would you like to have performed?

If I'd been selected for the Olympics I would've liked to perform Judo.
