INFLUENCES... The Magician!

Hailing from Belgium.  Born Stephen Fasano.  And formally part of Aeroplane (another great influence of mine)...  Let me introduce to you The Magician!

"His background is shrouded in mystery, his powers are supernatural and his reputation is whispered about among men. He goes by different names, but folks just call him The Magician."  So his biography tells us...  If you have not heard of this guy, then where have you been?

There is no need to look any further than his Soundcloud page to understand why he is rated so highly, not only by myself...

Posting up Magic "mix" Tapes since 2011 (he has done 39 so far), each time he tries to bring something just a little bit different to the table than his previous mix.  His sound is firmly based in the 4/4 world but the tempo often changes.  He is equally able to play you a more uplifting beat that really gets your feet moving, to slowing it right down with more funky/groovy joints.

Whether it's including flashes of old school sounding pianos or more modern tech stabs, along with a regular use of vocal tracks, Magic Tapes are not afraid to look into the past for their influence, in order to help shape the future!

One of his most recent mixes (and a personal favourite of mine) - MAGIC TAPE 38 - has been listened to over 128,000 times...

And if you needed any more proof, check these out...  The figures don't lie!

Over 100,000 followers on Facebook
Over 93,000 followers on Soundcloud
Over 18,500 followers on Twitter
& almost 5000 followers on Instagram

Not only is he content with providing such fluid, yet diverse and enjoyable mixes, the guy can also produce a decent tune when he wants to!!  Generally across the board, his style ranges from house to disco/nudisco.

Whether it is on remix duties (such as his remix of Clean Bandit at the top of this post) or weather it's his own original material, The Magician is guaranteed to leave you spell bound (sorry, it had to be done!).

Not only that, when he's feeling generous, he likes to give his music away for FREE (who doesn't like a free tune?!):

Whether you agree or not, in my world and certainly over the past few years, this guy has been a great influence.  His ability to mix up his sounds (production and DJ wise) and yet make himself sound fresh and relevant each time, has to be applauded in my eyes.

Feel free to let me know your thoughts!

Love,

Disko Trooper xx

ROB MADE (Sleazy Deep) interview!

Hi Rob, thanks again for agreeing to come down and play at East Project.  How’s the label, Sleazy G has got off to a great start?

Yeah great thanks!  Sleazy Deep's bigger than ever with a whole host of amazing things set for 2014, it's been another great year of great house music and Sleazy G couldn't of got off to a better start already with a number 1 and every release has gone top10, this sound seems to be HUGE right now!!!

What are you up to at the moment?

Things are just crazy busy for me right now, I'm busy working full-time, writing tracks as Rob Made and have an exciting side project on the go plus running both labels as well as celebrating the birth of my second son Tate! so much going on but I kinda like it like that!
What can we expect from a Rob Made set?

I like to play a bit of everything I'm really diggin' at that time... I generally play forthcoming label stuff and anything else that's current from the artists I love and some of my own productions too. I'd expect some killer nu skool disco & deep house with a lot of party bangers & some G fun!!!!

What track for you defined 2013?

Well that's a tricky question there was just so much amazing music and change in 2013! Fatal Attraction by Teenage Mutants made me think fuuuuckkk

And finally your predictions for 2014... Who should we look out?

Again, many great new artists & talent. for Sleazy G a girl called Ania Iwinska is making some dope beats and for Sleazy Deep I'm loving Lou Van, Pete Oak, Moda Soul, Eddie M, Fabry Pandolfo and more... Oh and there's also some bloke called Rob Made, I heard his new forthcomings are heating up!!!

Thank you...  And we look forward to having down at the next East Project!

Clouded Judgement Interview & East Project Podcast Episode 6

Right then... Next up on the East Project Podcast is one of our acts for our party at Nomad on Saturday 9th February.

We welcome along a duo, Rob Morley & David French, who go by the name of Clouded Judgement! They have been working away and creating some amazing tracks and we think you need to keep an eye out for these guys! Their podcast is a little taste of what to expect on the night. Enjoy!!

INTERVIEW:

1. What you guys up to at the moment?

We're in the studio at the moment working on some new beats as well as working on our record label "DOG Records" with our friend, Richard Myles. It's going pretty well with the label receiving front page coverage from Beatport in their Nu Disco section.

2. Clouded judgement - there are two of you, so tell us a bit about yourselves and how it all started.

It all started in April last year.  We'd both been playing with the idea of trying our hand at music so in the end, we grabbed a copy of Logic and that was it.  We had plans to move to Ibiza for the Summer so all of our effort wen't into learning to produce and to see if it was something we could progress in.

3. What producers and djs are smashing it for you at present?

There's so many people doing big things now.  Lee M Kelsall is producing some big tunes and smashing it.  Rob Made's got some killer vibes as well and Sleazy Deep has some big tunes coming out.  Plus not forgetting our pals Toughlove, expect big things from them over 2013.

Adam Banks & Sion Elliot are the ones to watch this year though.  Adam's Digital Delight E.P is due this year & Sion's with MTA now, so we're looking forward to their releases.  Amine Edge is going from strength to strength as well with some exciting releases due this year & a new label as well (CUFF).

Apart from that, we're really digging the guys over in Ecuador, Andre Salmon, James Stewart, Karate Biycycle. . The list goes on.

4. What can East Project expect from a clouded Judgement set?

What can East Project expect from our set......Big Basslines!! We look to try and paint a picture in our sets and we like to vary from Nu Disco to Deep House, with a few unique tracks in there to switch it up.

5. What is your drink of choice on a night out?

Dave: JD n' Coke does it for me! Make it a double.
Rob: Give me a couple of Koppabergs and ill be sweet!

Thanks Guys and see you on Saturday 9th February @ Nomad (58 Old Street, EC1V 9AJ)!!

Introducing WILL CRAWSHAW... Headliner at East Project's 2nd Birthday!

Introducing WILL CRAWSHAW... Headliner at East Project's 2nd Birthday!

He is resident and firm favourite at one of Leed's smoothest brands, "BeatStreet".  Most recently he has had 2 beatport top 20's, 4 other Beatport top 100's and has been charted by the likes of NTFO, Miguel Puente and Rebel......  Anyway, enough of all that!!

First picking up on Will Crawshaw thanks to his Soundcloud page and a number of his early releases and mixes, it was no surprise to find out this guy finds himself based in Leeds.  Taking his favourite elements and influences from House, Techno and all things Electronic, Will manages to produce tracks and create mixes that are firmly bases for the dance floor, yet keeping his melange of beats deep and fun all at the same time!

For a perfect example of this, check the Podcast he specifically recorded in anticipation of his headline set:

Tell us a bit about yourself and what you are up to at the moment?

How do!  Well, me?  21 year old green smokin, music producer from Leeds, been DJ-ing since I was 13, producing since 16.  Gone through all the motions with different genre's over the years and now currently playing around with all things electronic, groovy and techy.  Love pushing the boat out and trying new things.  I ain't no one trick pony...

At the moment, I'm currently indulging in the finer sounds of techno and deep house, being inspired every day.  Working on some exciting new music and projects, also a few collaborations that will be revealed later this year.

Fav city and gig you have played?

Ooo, right, tough one really!  I get opportunities to play at some amazing parties all over the world, but probably this year's season in Ibiza with my Beatstreet brothers, we put on a boat party which was absolutely tits!  Had it rammed and the vibe was next level!

But other gigs to mention that stand out are in Oslo at Bollywood Dancing, Sankeys in Manchester earlier this year and also kickin' it with the Real Nice boys at Lightbox in London.  All wicked gigs, mad vibes, top people.

You have joined the "Kumasi Music" crew, tell us how you got involved with that?

Well it's all come about as they've been quite forward thinking and snapped up a lot of my good friends from in and about Leeds, that are all smashing out great music at the moment. Seems to be word of mouth as we all support one another.

Leeds seems to be producing so many good artists at present, Miguel Campbell, Burnski, Robert James, Matt Fear and so on. What are you guys doing so differently up there?

Leeds is where it's at, hands down.  We're one big family, we all know each other from partying and playing together.  All supporting each others sounds, it's such a creative and diverse city, there's something for everyone. You don't even know the half of what's going on in the home studios in Leeds, everyone's bang on it.  Making music for the love of the music and not for any other reason.

A perfect example of this is Love Not Money Records, run by good friend Luke Pompey.  He's created a perfect platform for a lot of the Leeds artists to get stuff out on and be proud of a wicked release.  Big things coming for the LNM crew, including a release from myself.

What can East Project expect from a Will Crawshaw set?

You can expect a journey through all things electronic, weird, wonderful with a deep edge and a few sprinklings of techno goodness.  I play music you can dance to, that you can feel, I try creating them moments on a night out that people talk about for days after.  Hope you're all ready. Hold on to your wigs!

Last one...   What is your drink of choice?

Hmm... A bottle of Agwa? or hit me with a jagerbomb.  Other than than, favorite steady drink is vanilla vodka with coke, plenty of ice, and a fat slice of lime.  Boosh.

Look forward to seeing you in October!

Me too, let's party. Much love x

The East Project "Preview/Review"!

In anticipation of East Project's next installment, we thought what better way to get the low down on the imminent event, than to get the promoters to review the last party in February and find out what they are most looking forward to on Friday 8th June?!

Read on!!

The last EP was a resonding success!  You sold out of advanced tickets and had a packed out club on the night.  How was the event as a whole for you both?

Gilly - Wow...  What can I say about the last party?!  I do think we did under estimate how busy this was going to get.  I remember being sat on Anjuna beach in Goa and looking at my phone and seeing that all pre-sale tickets had gone.  It was unreal!  The party was a success and did truly go down as our best one yet.  All the DJs played great sets and big thanks has to go out to everyone who came down.

Joe - The last party was indeed a huge success!  We never expected to gain as much interest as we did for the night, with hitting over 100 past the venue's actual capacity, we knew it was time to step the game up a little. The crowd was as good as ever, better than we've ever had in-fact!  Every DJ showed their talent beautifully and the whole night couldn't have gone better!

Also, it was the first time EP had 2 rooms of music.  How do you think that worked?

Joe - The 2 rooms worked an absolute treat.  It gave us a chance to showcase different genres of underground house and techno, with 4 great headliners... Which for us, really pushed the boat out because previously we have just had the one at each event.  Not forgetting all the other DJs who played on the night, including residents from Art of Dark, Diasco & more, who equally tore it up.

So who really impressed you DJ wise on the night?

Gilly - Have to say all the DJs on the night played wicked sets.  Was really looking forward to seeing Miguel play, as we had seen him in the summer at Zoo Project in Ibiza, so we knew he was going to smash it.  Have to also say a highlight for me was when he dropped "Something Special".  This was my favorite track of last year.

Joe - I too was really impressed with Miguel.  Before having him play for us, I'll be honest and say I hadn't really listened to many of his tracks/podcasts/mixes, as i'm slightly more into my deeper house & techno, but he really managed to get the crowd rocking!!  And he is a great guy too!

The next East Project is only a few days away...  Which of your headline bookings are you most looking forward to hearing play?

Gilly - Well for this one, again we have managed to pull in 4 headliners.  Robert James was 3rd time lucky for me, as twice before he was already booked up, so I'm glad to have finally got him.  FB Julian has been someone who has been on the radar for a while, so happy to have him down also to play.  Joe has made a few nice bookings with Rich Nxt from Fuse and Samu.l who is coming down from Birmingham. So it will be nice to catch both these guys too. They've got some great releases out at present.

Joe -  I genuinely can't wait for our next party.  It's by far the best line-up we've had.  I'm looking forward to seeing what all 4 headliners have to offer, and I have to say i've seen Rich play at Fuse a few times now and he smashes it every time. But honestly, I'm really looking forward to Samu.l.  I've loved his production for so long now and his spring podcast was an absolute treat, and sadly I missed his set at Fuse earlier in the year, so I can't wait to see what he has to offer!

You have a new venue for the event...  Can you divulge any more details yet?

Gilly - Well we are just putting the final touches to the venue.  It is a basement space and it's a 5 minute walk from Dalston Kingsland.  So a nice change of venue and think everyone will really like this one. This will be announced shortly.

Joe - Yes, we have a new venue!  It's one we've had our eye on for a while now, and it's played host to a few fantastic parties in the past such as Geddes' NoFitState and A Night With..., without being totally over-used, which is perfect!  And it's also our first party using a superb Funktion-One sound system. All will be revealed ;).

Finally, any new artists/tunes that are doing it for you right now that we can expect to hear you each play in your sets?

Joe - There's so much great music floating around at the moment, and there's a few artists that are truly inspiring me.  Most of all include the guys from [a:rpi:ar] (Pedro, Rhadoo, Raresh) & a few of the other Romanians such as Praslea, Priku, Gescu, TC Studio, Mihigh, Faster, the list goes on!  Also, I feel very inspired by the likes of tINI who I am lucky enough to be playing alongside in June, and the man himself, Enzo Siragusa, who is truly at the fore-front of the London underground scene at the moment.  There's also quite a few extremely talented local London artists that are throwing great stuff out there at the moment, some of which is sadly unreleased. I could go on forever about which artists and tracks are doing it for me at the minute, but I'll leave it at that and say you can expect to hear much of it in my set on the 8th!

Gilly - Well apart from the Hot Creations boys who at the moment are just smashing it, have to say Maxxi Soundsystem!  If you have heard his Data Transmission podcast, then you know exactly what I am talking about.  We'll hopefully try to get him down in the near future.  Also another guy who I have been really impressed with his production is Will Crawshaw.  He has some amazing tracks out at the moment and once again hopefully see him in the near future at an East Project date.

East Project Podcast Episode 4 & Interview featuring FB Julian... Check it out!!

Lets start from the beginning... You are French but now live in London. France, with Paris in particular, has produced a long list of great electronic acts and producers over the years but what were your early musical influences?

Paris definitely has a great number of DJs and producers that really made an impact on the scene over the years. Growing up there, was therefore the major reason for what I am doing today. There are several artists who really triggered that interest of mine for it. When I started to go out, it was the DJs who really took the sound of Paris to the next level and beyond borders like Dan Ghenacia, who really gave the city an amazing place to gather and listen to new sounds and an amazing kind of house music throughout the "Kwality" party he used to host at Batofar; Ivan smagghe and his famous sets of original divers stuff was another rendez vous for me and my friends. The music in these parties was so consistently good and the vibe at its best there... And of course in other clubs like The Rex, thanks to DJs like: Jerome Pacman, Jef K, :TERRY:, Chris Carrier and of course Laurent garnier, I built a mad love for House Music. But it's really when I got to the UK in London that things took another dimension!

How old were when you left Paris and what drove you to join us on this side of the pond?

I left Paris when i was 19, just for a change of scenery and to give myself a real challenge I guess... I had dropped out of school and wasn't keen on the possibilities I was seeing available to me back then.

You are now part of the Rebel Agency. How did joining them come about?

Well when I got here, when I started playing out and doing parties, I got to work and developed great friendship with the founders of the label and its agency. It's really when I started to play for Derren Smart at the T Bar where I'm sure you know the whole of the best djs and artists where regularly playing... Among them where Damian Lazarus, Matthew Styles and Jamie Jones, who were a great source of inspiration and a total help in pushing me forward in the belief of my music. The some years later I got offered to be part of what I believe is one of the two strongest teams of acts this scene has to offer. I'm really happy to be a part of this group! It's like a big number of mates now and all bringing our little something to the game.

A particular favourite of mine was your release on Hot Creations, Pteradactil Disco - Big Ass Biscuit/Clive's Alright. Did that collaboration with Jamie Jones, Lee Foss and Robert James create any funny stories from being in the studio together or did you all work on them tracks at different times?

Ah ah... Well it's a particular favourite of mine too! Jamie is a great friend of mine and we had been talking for some time now to work on something together. He called me up and told me that he was at his place with Lee and Rob and what was meant to be a get together after their gigs/trip, naturally turned into a studio session with all four of us overnight, through what I have to say was one of the funniest moments I ever spent in a studio! Big Ass Biscuit was written the next evening, same scenario but throughout the session we realised that the vocal we were editing suddenly started to sound like "is Clive alright". When we first had a laugh about it there was just no other way to hear this vocal, and Clive Henry who is a dear friend ours and one of my favorite DJs was then totally implicated into this track. After lots of fun about it seemed totally normal to call him at this late late hour of the night for a friendly recorded phone call... Jamie put the phone on speaker mode and linked it to the mic and we all know the result of that! Ah ah, it still makes me laugh today, it was too much fun!!

At East Project we believe there is only good and bad music. Sometimes people spend too much time trying to pigeonhole their music and events, whereas we see it more as representing a vibe. What can the EP crowd expect from an FB Julian set?

Well, thank you for including me in your good book of music then, lol.. I play various styles of deep house mainly that is really inspired by my view of parties and after parties, which I got to develop in the many years I have been playing for Kubicle (the party I'm resident for). The aim being to just have a great time behind the decks and keep a smiling crowd having a great night out with new sounds to discover.

And lastly, What is your drink of choice on a night out?

To be honest I don't really drink alcohol. I mainly stick to soft drinks when I'm out but I have to admit I love golden tequila.

Thank you and see you at the PARTY!!
