The East Project "Preview/Review"!

In anticipation of East Project's next installment, we thought what better way to get the low down on the imminent event, than to get the promoters to review the last party in February and find out what they are most looking forward to on Friday 8th June?!

Read on!!

The last EP was a resonding success!  You sold out of advanced tickets and had a packed out club on the night.  How was the event as a whole for you both?

Gilly - Wow...  What can I say about the last party?!  I do think we did under estimate how busy this was going to get.  I remember being sat on Anjuna beach in Goa and looking at my phone and seeing that all pre-sale tickets had gone.  It was unreal!  The party was a success and did truly go down as our best one yet.  All the DJs played great sets and big thanks has to go out to everyone who came down.

Joe - The last party was indeed a huge success!  We never expected to gain as much interest as we did for the night, with hitting over 100 past the venue's actual capacity, we knew it was time to step the game up a little. The crowd was as good as ever, better than we've ever had in-fact!  Every DJ showed their talent beautifully and the whole night couldn't have gone better!

Also, it was the first time EP had 2 rooms of music.  How do you think that worked?

Joe - The 2 rooms worked an absolute treat.  It gave us a chance to showcase different genres of underground house and techno, with 4 great headliners... Which for us, really pushed the boat out because previously we have just had the one at each event.  Not forgetting all the other DJs who played on the night, including residents from Art of Dark, Diasco & more, who equally tore it up.

So who really impressed you DJ wise on the night?

Gilly - Have to say all the DJs on the night played wicked sets.  Was really looking forward to seeing Miguel play, as we had seen him in the summer at Zoo Project in Ibiza, so we knew he was going to smash it.  Have to also say a highlight for me was when he dropped "Something Special".  This was my favorite track of last year.

Joe - I too was really impressed with Miguel.  Before having him play for us, I'll be honest and say I hadn't really listened to many of his tracks/podcasts/mixes, as i'm slightly more into my deeper house & techno, but he really managed to get the crowd rocking!!  And he is a great guy too!

The next East Project is only a few days away...  Which of your headline bookings are you most looking forward to hearing play?

Gilly - Well for this one, again we have managed to pull in 4 headliners.  Robert James was 3rd time lucky for me, as twice before he was already booked up, so I'm glad to have finally got him.  FB Julian has been someone who has been on the radar for a while, so happy to have him down also to play.  Joe has made a few nice bookings with Rich Nxt from Fuse and Samu.l who is coming down from Birmingham. So it will be nice to catch both these guys too. They've got some great releases out at present.

Joe -  I genuinely can't wait for our next party.  It's by far the best line-up we've had.  I'm looking forward to seeing what all 4 headliners have to offer, and I have to say i've seen Rich play at Fuse a few times now and he smashes it every time. But honestly, I'm really looking forward to Samu.l.  I've loved his production for so long now and his spring podcast was an absolute treat, and sadly I missed his set at Fuse earlier in the year, so I can't wait to see what he has to offer!

You have a new venue for the event...  Can you divulge any more details yet?

Gilly - Well we are just putting the final touches to the venue.  It is a basement space and it's a 5 minute walk from Dalston Kingsland.  So a nice change of venue and think everyone will really like this one. This will be announced shortly.

Joe - Yes, we have a new venue!  It's one we've had our eye on for a while now, and it's played host to a few fantastic parties in the past such as Geddes' NoFitState and A Night With..., without being totally over-used, which is perfect!  And it's also our first party using a superb Funktion-One sound system. All will be revealed ;).

Finally, any new artists/tunes that are doing it for you right now that we can expect to hear you each play in your sets?

Joe - There's so much great music floating around at the moment, and there's a few artists that are truly inspiring me.  Most of all include the guys from [a:rpi:ar] (Pedro, Rhadoo, Raresh) & a few of the other Romanians such as Praslea, Priku, Gescu, TC Studio, Mihigh, Faster, the list goes on!  Also, I feel very inspired by the likes of tINI who I am lucky enough to be playing alongside in June, and the man himself, Enzo Siragusa, who is truly at the fore-front of the London underground scene at the moment.  There's also quite a few extremely talented local London artists that are throwing great stuff out there at the moment, some of which is sadly unreleased. I could go on forever about which artists and tracks are doing it for me at the minute, but I'll leave it at that and say you can expect to hear much of it in my set on the 8th!

Gilly - Well apart from the Hot Creations boys who at the moment are just smashing it, have to say Maxxi Soundsystem!  If you have heard his Data Transmission podcast, then you know exactly what I am talking about.  We'll hopefully try to get him down in the near future.  Also another guy who I have been really impressed with his production is Will Crawshaw.  He has some amazing tracks out at the moment and once again hopefully see him in the near future at an East Project date.
