Introducing... Papa Marlin!

In the final of our interviews with the artists that featured on our debut release, we caught up with the excellent Papa Marlin...  He's the one who provided the Friends Vol1 EP with some funky as you like, break-beat style house beats to go with the rest of our deep house and nu-disco ensemble.

Read on and get you ears around this!!

1 - Please introduce yourself?

Hello. This is Papa Marlin. Real name Rustam Lyalenkov. I was born and live all my life in Ukraine. Music making for 15 years and I begun with the rock music. House music has been for the year, and as you can see, I have not too bad success! ;) Probably very few people can imagine their life without music. So do I! So here I am! ;)

2 - What is the music scene like in the Ukraine?

oh, this is a very sensitive issue! There are so many people who are in love with electronic music. but there are many factors that do not allow this to develop. There are many people who make this music and make it well, but most of them are simply lost in the problems of life. Perhaps that is why the scene is not stable.  But house music has always been in the trend. and that's fine! ;) In the Ukraine it is quite possible to have thousands of full dance floors and those people would be honest and open! ;)

3 - Is house music and the sound you produce popular?

While I was not popular, luckily I got interested in by some serious people who will certainly help me in promoting my career! ;) To be honest, I'm afraid to be popular. I'm not a fan of such things! it would be cool to know my name, but did not know who I really am! ;)

4 - You have released on a host of different labels (ABCDeep, LouLou, HOH, Sleazy G) but what has been your favourite release so far and why?

Perhaps it is foolish to say that some of your releases are bad! Just for me there are more important releases... It does not matter on what label they come out on, the main thing is that I like them and the people on the dance floor! I generally try to do such tracks, so they can be to listen not only on the dance floor, but also at home, in the car on the way to work! Now there is this crazy flow of information and music! And if your track is trending for at least six months, then it's very cool ... and if your track has listens and plays a couple of years, I believe that you are popular. ;)))

5 - Do you prefer producing or DJing?

Definitely for me is the most important thing is producing rather than DJing. It's very simple, if there are no producers, then there are no DJs!

Introducing... Deep Matter!!

For the fourth of our Introducing posts featuring the artist from East Project Friends Vol1, we catch up with Deep Matter.

Read on and enjoy!!

Please introduce yourselves and how you have ended up working together?

We started working together about 2 years ago after meeting at a local event, I was making trance back then and Dan was full on deep house.  I had a studio in town and invited Dan round and it kind of progressed from there, the trance got thrown out of the window and we worked towards creating our own house sound.

As Deep Matter you seem to like collaborating with a number of different people…  Was this a conscious decision and do you find this is the best way to get the most out of your productions?

In regards to collaborating, yeah we have done a lot of it and it’s something we have now started to nip in the bud.  Main reason being our old studio consisted of 3 rooms and another underneath, all who are house producers, so a lot of the time we’d chill out together and make music together. But yea, as much as we like collaborating you can expect a lot more solo projects over the next few months.

How would you describe your sound?

I'd describe our sound as diverse and current. We like all genres of house from the real deep minimal stuff to the more commercial stuff you hear on the radio. We try not to pigeon-hole ourselves into making one style. Instead just role with what we feel like on the day. After all it should all be fun right? No point making something you don’t enjoy for sake of it.
What do you say you do to someone you have never met before?

Err.... how do!

“Superstitious Lover” had received a lot of love on Soundcloud prior to announcing its release on East Project…  What was your inspiration behind the track and title?

Superstitious Lover kind of took inspiration from Mark Knights rip of the Kylie Minogue’s "can’t get you out of my head" track. We really liked the idea of pitching down an old acapella and using it as the main hook. Sooner or later “Texas - I Don't Want A Lover" got suggested, however the original acapella didn’t quite work musically, so I jumped on the mic and voilà.., the rest was history.

Introducing... Monrabeatz!!

For the 3rd of our "Introducing..." articles based on the debut "East Project Friends Vol 1" release and the artists that feature on it, we thought that this time we would head over to South American and catch up with the amazing Monrabeatz!

For those that don’t know you, please introduce yourself and your sound?

Hello everybody, I'm Ramon Chamberlain, known as Monrabeatz, I'm a Brazilian DJ, producer and hip hop beatmaker...  I was born in Campo Mourao - Paraná, but I grew in Curitiba - Paraná, state capita.

I've been in touch with good music since I'm a baby. My parents are musician and I grew up hearing many good 70' / 80's  Brazilian sounds; artists like Baden Powell, Vinicius de Moraes, Cartola, Cassiano, Caetano Veloso and many others...  But when I was about 10 years old, I start to listen to many hip hop mixtapes, from artists like wu tang clan, group home, guru, the fugees, jurassic 5, and a lot of Brazilian groups too.

At East Project we first picked up on your music when we fell in love with your remix of The Fugees – Ready or Not, last year…  Did that remix/edit take you long and why did you choose that song to remix and give away for free?

Ohh that remix... I just love it!  I love The Fugees, since I'm a kid and the Ready Or Not track just makes me feel amazing!! So I did the remix and put a preview on my Soundcloud account and wrote in the description "2000 plays = free download".

The people hear the mix and go crazy.. so they started re-post and share it a lot. In a few days the track got to 2000 plays, but I only saw it 2 days later.  When I logged into my account, many guys asking me for the download link and giving me amazing feedback. I was very happy.
Deep House, NuDisco and G-house is proving to be really popular in Brazil right now.  Is it nice to be in the middle of that?

Yes, it's wonderful!! It is a pleasure for me to produce music and see the people going crazy in the clubs with my own productions and many other artists playing my music around the world... Its very very gratifying.

You are releasing music on a variety of labels (Sleazy Deep, Dear Deer, Dialtone, Beachside, Miami Underground) but what has been your favourite release so far?

I love all the labels who are releasing my music, so it's hard say which is my favourite release... I love all!! hahahahaha

What can people expect from a Monrabeatz record and who are your biggest musical influences?

Guys... certainly, big big things are coming.  I'm doing crazy work in my studio, so keep in touch with my channel, and don't miss the news ;)

Bro my biggest influences are from the legendary hip hop producers, J Dilla, 9th Wonder, Hi-tek, Dr. Dre and more...  Its my inspiration, always.
